What is the best way to use an iPad2 for playing backing tracks,or reading charts, or playing videos?

How do I transfer files and organize the folders on the iPad2 without using iTunes?

I use the program iRealPro to create and share chord charts, similar to the Real Book format. They have a large number of users who share such charts on their forums.

For your other questions, I'd refer you to something like this basic guideline in PDF format, although there are lots of tutorials and guides online.

Thanks, Brad. I use iRealPro as well. Nice and useful program.
Most of the basic guidelines I know. It just seems impossible to set up a folder structure that can be seen by all relevant apps. It seems each app has its own documents folder and refuses to share with other apps.
I was hoping there would be a work around and use the iPad like you use the Windows file system.

As an example I would like to use a folder for SONGS.
---------------------------------------------
Inside that folder there could be another folder called HEART_OF_A_CLOWN
Inside THAT folder there could be:

HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Backing_Track1.MP3
HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Jody Cameron.MP3
HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Final MIX.MP3

HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Midi.MID

HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Jody Cameron-VIDEO.MP4

HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-TAB1.JPG
HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-TAB2.JPG

HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Chords.DOC
HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-ALT-Chords.TXT

HEART_OF_A_CLOWN-Website.HTML

--------------------------------------------

Can iPad Apps deal with that kind of structure?
Or can the iPad only do Web-browsing, E-Mailing and Social Media?

I think you're trying to assume Windows-specific UI on an iOS device. What need would you have for each of those items, when they're already controlled by the app that uses them?

It's a different way of thinking, neither better nor worse than the Window File Explorer UI. Play around with it a bit and you'll understand why it's structured the way it is.

In Windows I know where everything is. Not in iOS.

In Windows you click on any file and it will open the right application AUTOMATICALLY without thinking. Perfect for performance where you have to concentrate on other things.

In iOS you need to remember which app to open first and you still have to find the file. In the above example you would have to remember 7 apps and manually find 7 files. 14 steps as opposed to 1 step. Not very conducive to performance or practice sessions.

Unless there is another way of setting up the file structure. I might need some assistance with that. Smile

EDIT:
Here is a link that shows that I am not the only one who discovered that the native method of dealing with files in iOS is clumsy and unintuitive. It's like Apple added it under duress, and wasn't interested in making it an enjoyable experience.

I will get the Files Connect app and check if that works.

UPDATE:
Wow! File Manager App (99 cents) does the job as expected and has perfect Wifi to PC connection facilities. No retarded iTunes involved. Smile
