I wouldn't be too concerned about getting a tube amp for pedal steel. I will agree will Mike Brown; if you really want a dedicated steel amp, go with a Nashville 112. Excellent sound, good value. I have two 112's, an LTD400, and a Nashville 400, I think the 112 sounds the best. But, as Bob Hoffnar said, for now, just use the amps you already own.
How would you compare the Roland Cubes in the hierarchy of Peavey? I've been practicing with my Cube 60, and I think it sounds great. I know I read somewhere on here that some people are gigging with the Cube 80.
I don't have a problem with SS amps, I've gigged with my Cube 60 before, and I'd do it again if I didn't have the Bassman available. And I actually prefer to use SS amps for practice, my Cube 60 is my go to practice amp for about every occasion.
I still prefer tube though. I like the warmth and the responsiveness much better than SS.

I've not played through them, but from what I've heard from people I trust, I'd put it between the Nashville 400 and Nashville 1000, possibly a step above that. I DON'T think they're the equal of either of the top 2 on my list.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Matt, if you can get Albert to package and ship this (since he's too far to drive), here's my personal favorite of all Peavey steel amps at a good price.
