I have an outdoor festival coming up with Fender Deville amps for the backline. Any suggestions for tone settings? (I'll be playing a Carter with a single coil pup) Thanks Very Happy

The main issue will be avoiding distortion, Dave, so the front end volume may have to stay low.

My knobs (scale of 1 > 12) look something like this:

Volume 3
Treble 7
Bass 8
Mids 6
Reverb 11
Presence 0

I do not use the Master Volume channel on stage because it adds too much distortion for my taste, and these amps are already gritty enough. You may want to use a good reverb device and leave the spring tank turned off for the same reason, nothing ruins a nice ride like ghost notes going the opposite direction...

I'd still lobby them to bring you a good Twin...

I would agree with Dave here. The Devilles can be a tad bright depending on which speakers it has and for an outdoor big stage you my find your V knob aiming towards 5 , a lot of sound gets lost on a big stage.

I actually prefer the sound of my 2x12 Deville over my 71 Twin but the Twin gives a bit more clean overall. The Deville will start to growl at you much above 5 but it's enough clean to get the job done. Of all my amps, past and present, it's my favorite.

The backline Fender Deville was excellent. I set the vol and tones about 11 o'clock master and boost off and reverb at 4 - loved it. It had 2-12" Jensen speakers. Sounded a lot like my Pro Reverb just enuf breakup on the C6th stuff when I wanted it. Thanks guys.

Do you know if the amp will be miced? If so, you should be able to dial in a decent tone. I love my 2 x 12 DeVille for guitar but it doesn't have a lot of headroom for clean sounds unless you keep the volume in check. If you can get the amp on a chair or road case to hear it better it might help too. Best wishes and break a leg! Walter

Didn't notice the date of the post and my out of date respones. Glad to hear the gig went well.
