I've been using an old 80's Peavey Bandit 65 as a practice amp in my living room with my '72 Sho-Bud Professional... have a bunch of better steel amps but this little one fits next to my daughter's piano and sounds surprisingly good.... Was thinking about cutting the baffle out for a 15" as I have a bunch of good speakers hanging around and the 12" scorpion is ok but....Have any of you guys done this?? Am curious about the tonal differences and whether the smaller cab is just better off with a 12".. The other alternative is to keep it simple and get a JBL K 120 or an 8 ohm Telonics...All input appreciated... Thanks!

Being that I prefer 12" speakers for steel, I'd put a better one in the Bandit...a Telonics, or EPS12 would be great. Actually, IMHO, anything is better than a Scorpion...they were intended for 6 string guitars and lack the extended range needed for steel.
I think the Bandit is ideal for a practice/small-gig amp, and deserves a good speaker to bring out it's best.

| yeh...i've got a bandit 112 ..the first 80 watt version. i actually liked the scorpion...but finally it self destructed and i put a heavy little black widow 1201-8 in it. it kicks butt now for steel and guitar. i'd stick with the 12 inch speaker. |

You going to use the Bandit for steel? If so, you would get quite a bit of headroom but for guitar, unless you like it clean it may be somewhat brittle. |

| Chris, I put the JBL K120 in my Bandit 65 and it sounds great. I put in heavier mounting hardware since that JBL magnet is very heavy. For a practice amp at home, it should work fine for you. |

Thanks guys...  A K120 was my original notion and if anyone has a line on one,please let me know.
I love JBL's and have a D130F in an old MM 115-65 that sounds superb for steel and lap steel..
Len..I have a boatload of great amps for guitars..am using the Bandit for steel as a living room practice amp.....
