Reading music is way overrated, especially at the start and if you're just looking to enjoy a little steel time and impress your cat (much harder than it sounds). Many of the all-time greats never read and you probably won't be sorry either, just dig the fun after sitting with Doug and in a year you'll look back and laff, two years later you may struggle to even remember the tribulations.

By all means take Doug up on that offer. I would drive three hours AND pay him.
GFI SM10 3/4, 1937 Gibson EH-150, 2 - Rondo SX Lap Steels and a Guyatone 6 String C6. Peavey 400 and a Roland 40 Amps. Behringer Reverb Pedal.
