Wow - Stilettos and Pedals
Maggie Björklund in Guitar World Interview. Interesting read and check out her shoes in the video! I wonder what Jeff Newman would say?

Here's an interesting "technique" she uses on another song that I've never seen anyone do - intentionally. It starts at 1:29 into the video. It all sounds like New Age steel to me with a few fleeting moments of the more familiar country sound mixed in here and there.

GW Magazine:
'tis a noble fight.... Whoa! Is that a windmill I spy....
*Sigh... 'bout all you can do is just keep sending them e-mails... I feel a tiny frisson of victory when I read about them in Premier Guitar magazine nowadays (though it might just be a gas bubble). Through devoted persistence, I think I might've convinced them to at least spell it right. Next stage? Convince them that not only do those guitar pedal thingmabob lapsed-steelie whatnots come from different manufacturers, they can even have different... tunings! Whoa! When did you start playing the pedal lap steel guitar*? Why did you choose to play it?

I like the unconventional techniques used here to stretch the bounds of the instrument.Picking behind the bar, bouncing the bar etc. all backed up with a bit of classical influence.

I like that! She drops the bar on the muted strings and it bounces rapidly, an interesting percussive effect. Similar to the bar effects that Speedy and Alvino did back in the day, but of course much more basic and simple than they did.an interesting "technique" she uses on another song that I've never seen anyone do - intentionally

Don:
I don't consider bouncing the bar, or picking behind the bar to be wrong. I simply said it was interesting. I applaud any musician testing the boundaries of their instrument. Here's another eye-opening video: The late Michael Hedges stretching the limits of the acoustic guitar.

I've been letting Maggie's videos play on YouTube and really digging them. Nothing sounds better to my ears than a Shobud through a Fender Twin!

It's neat to see that she forms her picking hand in basically the same form as I do. I still can't function in that "curled over" condition that Jeff Newman advocated. Try as I may..........

What was it?...
That was one whole cool sound.
That's where I have been going wrong - I have been having problems getting my legs under my steel. I will have to stop playing in stilettos and wear flat shoes. Darn!!
