Along with the like subject matter, the plunking banjo and steel guitar washes or pads, I guess, are about the only thing for these instruments to do in the industry. Relegated to serving as identifiers of country music.

Garth Brooks was a huge part of this current crop of trash on the radio. It was Randy Travis that brought real country music back from the brink. Not that fat pig who has a exaggerated sense of his own entertainment value Garth Brooks. Or is it Chris Gaines.

Compared to what's huge now on country charts, and worse when married with rap, Garth seems positively vintage.

Been out of the loop for a while?
Garth has been "off the couch" and back to performing the past few years and just put out a complete box set of new recordings(old songs that were his influences).

Very little talent or creativity needed. Just the ability to rehash the same formula over and over. If a product sells, keep pumping it out.

There's always been a musical sub-genre that targets and is performed by the young and priapic. For many years rock and roll filled that niche, but the leading practitioners of that "art" form are by now long past credibility as spokespersons for youth and priapism. I should imagine that the current iteration of the Y&P would go to some lengths to avoid "geezer rock".

Too bad they seized upon country.

I still listen to Chalee Tennison, Danni Leigh, Lorrie Morgan, and a lot of artists I grew up listening to. I've been playing steel with quite a few Danni Leigh songs, which Steve Hinson played steel on, and Danni is one of my all-time favorite artists. I'm glad Vince did the Bakersfield record with Paul Franklin-Paul is one of the guys who made me want to play steel and so is Sonny Garrish, the steel player on Chalee's records and many other records. And, a lot of times, I listen to some of my favorite bands that don't really use steel, but they still sound great, like Little Texas, Blackhawk,(lead singer Henry Paul is one of my singing influences). I'm a huge fan of Carrie Underwood too.
