I think you could play an orange crate with strings and make it sound good !

It really is the player , not the instrument that makes the music.

Thanks for all the kind comments. Yes, the video is short because I made so many mistakes in the second part I had to chop it off.

And my time was limited. Anyway, that's the Guyatone sound, kind of an thin, hollow tone, an interesting sound.

Jay, those pickups are called "gold foil" by collectors/players of Japanese guitars. Lollar makes a reissue called "Gold Foil Vintage DeArmond Teisco Airline Style".

Gotta love the gold foils!!!!

If you can find the DeArmond with the row of screws down one side- those are the Cooder approved foils that people pay big bucks for!

As long as you keep the gain/volume down to decent levels, these pickups are great!

I love the sound of the foil style pickups- it reminds me of my Tiescos I played/hated as a kid!
The action on them always sucked, but I always like the sound!

Yeah, I remember Teisco as a kid also. Probably 1965/66. They used to sell the standard electrics in department stores, along with St. George and other brands I can't remember. Guitars with four pickups and lots of rocker switches. Horrible action and sound. I suppose there are some gems among the dogs but for us rock and roll wannabes that stuff was third rate.

Yes, My first electric guitar was a pawn shop Teisco back in the 60s. It was unplayable, impossible to tune, terrible action. It was very frustrating trying to learn on that guitar. Then I got my first Fender Telecaster and I was blown away by the quality. It made learning so much easier.

Sounds good. That guitar has the same two white selector switches as my G'tone lap steel. Probably made about the same time.

The 'Coodercaster' 'foils are Teiscos and have the pole pieces on the outside (as opposed to the pictured ones). They are indeed expensive, but Jason Lollar is making re-pops.
