It's got bits of Lloyd, but I'm not sure about those widespread parts. The Cross thing sounds kinda Big E, but the tone's a little thin for Buddy.

I first became aware of that cut back in the 70's when I purchased one of those compilation trucker albums titled "Big Rig Special". It's a double album on the Hilltop label with songs from about a dozen artist and nine tunes from Red Simpson. Anyway, I must have spun the groove off of the side B by Red... Truck Driving Man, Nitro Express, Truck Daddy, and Born to be a Trucker.
That was the first time I recall hearing the Emmons split sound and I just had to learn that intro. Sometime in the past, I had researched and found that it was Leo LeBlanc playing on that cut... great player. Lots of great six-string on that album too.

'occupation...across the nation'....pretty lame song, ha ha.
and i notice 'pitch consciousness' is a lot better these days.
i listened to alot of this stuff and at least it has the fine old tradition of steel intro and turn-around. |
