Is Carter gone forever, or are there any plans for restarting?
Carter had done some impressive things for steel guitar, Too bad they're gone.

| I'm with you Bill! I love my Carter and would have another one too but I don't think we'll see any more new ones now. I talked to Al Brisco the guy that bought the company and he told me just has parts he can sell but that's all now. At some point I'm going to get a S-12 Universal and it will be a Carter. Those guitars are made really well and light weight too! |

Hey...I'm in with you guys. I love my Carter Universal. It's light, stays in tune, sounds good (Wallace TT). I still have my Sho-Bud Uni...but it's sooooo heavy in comparison. Frank, don't you have a D-10 Carter?..if so I guess you know the "FEEL" of a Carter

Micky, your Carter is a beautiful instrument.
During my career (what there was of it) I owned and played many different guitars that had many different issues.
In 2002 while working my regular music show, I saw the need to replace my high-maintenance Sho-Bud with something more user friendly.
I found what I needed at Bud Carter's shop in Dallas, and to this day the guitar has never needed anything other than string changes and regular lubrication.
In my opinion and experience, Carter is the most reliable and maintenance-free steel-guitar available today.

Of course I echo every word you have to say on the Carter. Bud always built a great guitar.

What a shame these wonderful guitars are not available anymore. I have a Carter "Custom Shop LE"
model 8 x 8 with premium necks. Superb workmanship, I just love it.

I still think Carter guitars were the best guitar out there for the bucks and maybe even as good or better than some of the higher priced guitars. I've owned two Carters and the workmanship and looks were both top notch and I believe a Carter plays as good as any out there.
I also miss the Carter room that was always at Dallas Steel convention. Most of the time, they were the only maker that thought enough of us Day players to have guitars setup for us to try. Also, some great music came from that room and any level player was welcome to sit in and jam on a Carter.

I never owned or played Carter before, and recently I got in 2 D-10 Carters and 1 Magnum SD-10, all of them very solid, and great sounding instruments, one of the best guitars I have ever played...

I have "Blondie". She's also custom shop and very low maintenance.
When the light hits it at a certain angle, the sausage-quilted maple and abalone inlays are something to behold!
Carters have one of the neatest and straightforward undercarriages in the business and making a change to your setup is a snack. Great engineering, great playability and great tone. Nothing comes near them for sheer value-for-money.

Everybody always thanks Bud, and rightfully so. But we should not forget John Fabian (RIP), who owned Carter. He actually assembled some as did Bud. I'm also sorry they are gone.

I know. But John isn't. Bud left the company some time before John died and Carter closed up shop. If Bud had still been there, maybe Carter would still be around. John was also instrumental in the design and building of the Carter. I don't think Bud would have started a business building the Carter on his own. I do realize he is involved with ETS, but is he the only one involved in that company? At Bud's age, I would doubt he did it all by himself. My point is, the Carter is not just the work of Bud Carter, but a partnership of expertise between more than just Bud. And if you really think about it, the changer is pretty much the same as many other all pull guitars use, even in guitars prior to the Carter (although Bud had his hand in the original development of those changers). Except for some minor changes, the differences in guitars now are mostly cosmetic.
By the way, one time I called Carter to order a 9th pedal (actually a zero pedal) and Bud answered the phone. It was cool to actually get to talk to him.
