Pack-seat alternative
What's your favorite alternative to a pack-seat? I'd like to find a light-weight but sturdy folding stool or such, adjustable height, etc.

Tommy, here is but one place that has what you may be looking for....I use a keyboard seat...light and adjustable and don't cost an arm or leg.
Hope this helps.

Well, here's mine...
The "seat" is an old boat seat (for free), the "box" is some scrap wood I had, the legs (removable) are 2" dia poplar dowel.
It holds (when fully packed) two volume pedals, box of picks, bars, and tools, box of strings and tuners, cables, and the legs.

I may, in fact, be nuts. However, I am screwed onto the right bolt... Jesus!

Like Lane, I use a drum stool. Folded up, it fits into the small suitcase I use for an effects bag. I first used one when I forgot my stool when I was in the bar band (the New Radio Cowboys) at the Stevenson Bluegrass Festival. The drummer for the swing band that followed us loaned me her drum stool, and I was hooked. - Jack

"Airplane Seat"
Like the Duck, I'm building my own seat. To make it easier to carry, it's in two parts like the split guitar cases. One part is the base and the other part is the storage box - both are the same size. The "airplane" part is that both pieces are made to fit under an airplane seat. You can put the base in the overhead compartment and the storage box (with your expensive pedals inside) down by your feet, where you can keep an eye on them.
I'm trying to figure out a way to put casters on one of the boxes so you can just pull it through the airport like a suitcase. Maybe even put you guitar case on top!

seat
Hi Scott,
I got this seat off EBay and it`s a great bit of kit has plenty of storage space for all the items that we carry ,AND it`s a lot lighter than the custom made seats.
It`s made by Koala fishing seats ect.

note from steelseats
I have had at least 4 or 5 orders lately from people that have ordered due to drum thrones falling over - one was just missed by the PA speaker he hit on the way down - it just missed his steel.
I have also gotten several orders from people that can not get those cross brace piano benches the correct height. The adjustment is too much difference in height.
I have a couple photos of both the above being thrown in a dumpster after they bought a steelseat. Both were a surprise and from different parts of the country and about a year apart.
I am just reporting what I hear from customers. I am now selling them to other musicians like drummers, keyboard players, guitar and bass players, etc.
Just a note - not trying to start anything just reporting what I have heard.

stool
I gigged on of these for years...carried my extra strings & wires in an old brief case. I use them still in the house.
