Boy some people don't understand what Hi Jack means. Real Traditional Classic Country Music is still alive if you turn off them Radio Stations in your car or anywhere you hear it in your ear, and stay out of them bars that don't play it. As for the T.V. that's why you have the Voice.Just look at that mix and all the fix sign paper work that it takes to be on there. The under fair act is sure off with everybody singing the blues. Who Used Who , My Memories Book is still cooking. Now it's hitting home with all.

i thought it was a good move to honor george strait one last time. respectful.
alan, george and vince still representing the heart and soul of good people playing good music.
i'm not so crazy about the choices brad p. is making musically, but i think he's a good person too. he'll settle back down as he ages.
when blake and miranda are getting repeat top honors, it indicates the current phase is dying out. this may open the door for some unique, creative talent.
last years entertainer of the minute sure turned out to be a big zero as i suspected.

Because rock and rollers don't want to claim it either.Henry Matthews wrote:I couldn't endure enough of it to get to George Strait and Alan Jackson part. What I saw was pure unadulterated rock and they still call it country is what pi**es me off. It's even gotten where you can't understand the words any more or I can't anyway.
I know why they do it, they want to appeal to young bunch that will buy CD's and go to concerts but why don't they just call it rock cause it ain't country.
Bingo!! Well said Joe.Joe Casey wrote:You got it mark..--I expect to look at it and fast forward to anything I like. I don't expect people like only what I like. But I also don't have to hate what others like. For some thirty years I got to do what I enjoyed in other words I had my time in the barrel. Whatever the case is now the music is selling and a lot of pickers are working. Those with one dimension minds simply are not.

I always thank the Nashville scene for giving us the exodus to Branson and Austin. There are more green/yellow haired guys standing on the stage monitors and screaming the same lyrics over and over, in Nashville than needs to be. I have lost all interest of what goes on in that Town. Ever since Stonewall got skrewed over by the Opry on his lifetime contract, I quit it too. He was called too old !Carl Kilmer wrote:I agree Mike. CMA now means CRAPY MUSIC AWARDS

generations have changed, people have changed...this is part of the change. We don't have to like it or watch it but that doesn't prevent the changes.
I don't like the new cars either....
We can always move to Florida where my sister lives, everyone is a few decades older and living in a very nice world which is maybe 30 years older than the one outside the gate of the community !

" If Traditional Country was played on the radio 24 hours a day people would buy it, because when they switched on their radio that's all they would hear."
LOL. Which century are you living in?
People today don't listen to music that just comes from their radio. There is spottily and Youtube, and a thousand other sources to get introduced to music. The only thing the powers that be are concerned with is making a profit. If they could make a profit playing traditional country music, they would. They can't so they don't.
I do love this notion though that there is a conspiracy to keep traditional country off the radio.

Not to throw any sunshine on this doom and gloom party but it was a far better show than alot of others in the past few years. I hate most of the stuff out there today as much as the next guy but alot on this years show was at least a nod in the right direction.
#1 No rappers on this show.
#2 Strait won entertainer of the year.
#3 Strait and Jackson got to sing a whole song and not just a small section.
#4 Taylor Swift's performance got some genuine talent on stage.
#5 Kacey Musgraves being nominated so heavily is a good sign for the future.

Gentlemen, Gentlemen
This is an old subject that hasn't changed in a thousand years.
We are simply talking about ART vs. COMMERCE
If you build it, some will come. Others will take their money elsewhere.
Technology (Bandcamp, Soundcloud, YouTube, etc) has given us a tremendous opportunity amplify the ART component; to seek out new talent, or to dig deeper into only those artists we adore.
Either way, let's keep it positive. There is little need to decry the efforts of others making a living legally.
Choice is king here Turn it on, turn it off.
Peace out.

Agreed Dustin, and I would like to add that I enjoyed Little Big Town winning Vocal Group of the Year. They've been at it for a long time and have paid some serious dues but have hung in there. They are one of only a handful of mainstream country acts that I would pay money to see, love their sound, superb harmonies. Some of the lyrics are on the weak side - they won't be giving Rodney Crowell a run for his money any time soon, but I do enjoy a lot of their music.
Speaking of Rodney Crowell, here he is looking on as small town Montana doctor and moonlighting singer/songwriter Ben Bullingotn sings one of my favorite songs of the year "Country Music I'm Talkin' To You," with assistance from two of my other favorites, Darrell Scott and Will Kimbrough. Please don't blow this off - it's really good, cut from the same cloth of "Murder On Music Row":

Bingo. And y'know what? They're right for most people. Modern country music is for people that just want to feel good and not think or feel too much. It's a damn shame too because good country songwriters are able to express some of the most subtle and under-the-surface feelings and emotions. But that's too intense for most people.they think were so stupid we cant tell real country music from this garbage they push on us on radio and tv.
But I don't feel too bad about it because of this:

Tell me: was there a cable coming out of the guitar?Niels Andrews wrote:Just watched Vince Gill do a cool acoustical piece with Taylor. Liked it.
I wish people would quit calling piezoelectric guitars acoustic. Doesn't sound near as good as a D-18 with a 58 in front of the tone hole.
2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)
More amps than guitars, and not many effects

Heh.
The underlying battle has raged since 1924, when pop/opera singer Marion Slaughter started singing "hillbilly" songs. At one point, the Opry wouldn't allow amps, then they wouldn't allow any drums, then just a snare. And there have been people pushing boundaries.
I don't usually like what they do, but the tension keeps the form viable.
