I have a defective control panel that was taken off of a '66 Emmons several years ago but I don't know (or can't remember) what was defective about it. There are 4 electronic components (left to right) . . . a toggle switch, capacitor, neck selector switch and a 500K potentiometer. Is there a simple way to determine the defective component(s) by using a cheap multi-tester while not being wired to the guitar?

OK Mike, I'll bite... first the "official" Emmons diagrams...
Now for testing...
Your handy VOM will test everything, to a point. Of course the switch, when probed across the terminals will show on or off, depending on it's position.
The volume control will show a sweep from 0 ohms to some higher reading when you probe the center (wiper) and either of the side terminals.
The cap should act like this... put the VOM leads on the caps leads one way, and then reverse them. You should see jumps and then drops which means it has "some" capacitance.
As for the 5 way switch, you will have to use the diagram and trace the switch through all it's positions.

The 500k pot is not correct for a 1966 from my experience. I have always seen 1964 dated pots that are 100k for an Emmons that early. But that is my experience.

Looks like your capacitor lead wire may be grounding out on your switch frame?
