This is what the originals looked like:

You can get a white chicken-head knob from any guitar parts supplier. The volume knob is a little less common, but can be found on Ebay and from vintage radio parts suppliers.

New replacement "Chicken Head" knobs are available from http://angela.com

They are for 1950s amps, but may fit your New Yorker. Check the specs. Fits 1/4" dia. solid shaft guitar pots.

That's very odd - the tone settings are engraved into the top of the guitar, not on a separate plate.

I looked at it a little closer.. looks like it is broken off just after the cover.. that's where the white plastic stops also

Great! Maybe you should "age" them to match the guitar. 8) It's possible to relic knobs by soaking them in coffee and sanding them lightly with light sandpaper or steel wool. Some guys even use shoe polish on them!
