I watched Gary play many times in 81 at the old Gabes that was a local hangout for a lot of notable steelers and really everybody back then and he was the best of them all that I heard back then. His playing was so very soulful and great tone. This was when Chuck Bartlett was a regular there and I seen times when they had four steelers playing at the same time there. I need this CD!

Yep Real Country has been gone a long time. Gabes is still there but not the club it was back then. I had the chance to buy the place but was in the middle of a divorce at the time so that wasn't the time to be buying something like that! I live about ten minutes from there in Inglewood and it's now owned by a former cop that has a band there but way too loud for me to sit in the place. Not the level of entertainment it was back then but if I had it I'd try my best to bring it back to that level.

I got mine the other day and I can't put it down!! I loaded it into my iPod and listened to it while mowing grass and riding my motorcycle and I literally just play it over and over and over! Gary's tone, presentation, dynamics and most of all "feeling" is the best I think I've ever heard. Each time I listen to a song I pick up something new. And yes... I'll man up and admit it... Shenandoah can bring tears to my eyes. Where I was really surprised is that we share the same appreciation of songs. I had chosen 3 of the same songs for my own lead guitar CD project a few years ago. I think Gary is one of the top players out there right now.

Very fast order/delivery..Ordered mine on Tuesday..it arrived Friday..never even noticed the front cover reversed..doesn't matter..this a great CD..Gary's execution ,tone and song selection is top shelf...
I did some tracks for a local artists regional release..he sent me the CD and asked me what I thought well after the release....I told him the tracks , songs, etc were really good...but I asked him why the liner notes say ...
" Tony Prior Peele Steele Guitar "...
his comment was .. "'WHAT" !!! And this was the second batch ordered !
It happens, it shouldn't, but it does...
so now..the big joke in my family is I play
PEELE STEELE Guitar...

Just got mine, it's one of the least flashy and most heartfelt steel CD's I've heard. I had pretty much stopped buying these, because the "perennial sideman" response to freedom is often to play all the notes all at once, on every song, and act like they don't like country and are a Harlem bebopper deep down inside - Mr. Carter knows who he is, and makes every note count. Never a cheap shot or showoff choice.
I was surprised about no liner notes or musician credits - usually a "sideman" is meticulous about that. I'm sure I could research it if needed, but, I shouldn't have to.
