Where is a good place to buy and sell used studio mics ? I'm in the market for a pair of matched condensers for overheads and acoustic instruments.
I can't afford neumann KM 84s and want something better than shure 81's. I'm looking at modded oktava M12s at the moment. _________________ Bob |

Bob, at very reasonable price point I'm a big fan of the Rode stuff. I've been using a pair of tube NK2s for overheads, acoustic instruments and some vocals with great results. Fine mics. _________________ Stop by the Steel Store at: www.markvanallen.com

Bob,
I'm curious about your experience with the SM-81's. I've used them for years.
If you could get a vintage pair of AKG 451's with the old C1 capsules that would be worth considering for sure.
Cheers

Oh,
I'd drop a line to Mercenary Audio in Boston. They may have something for you or could recommend another source for reliable used microphones.
I have bought from them. Highly recommended.

Howard,
I've used the 81s for years myself. They are on stage at most better venues. I want something with a bit more clarity and it doesn't need to be very directional. I'm recording mostly oddball chamber music in a quiet environment.
thanks for the link _________________ Bob |

Hey Bob,
Have you tried the Tape Op message board? Worth a look...

If you are looking for a pair of SDCs, check out the ones from Miktek...I do a lot of sessions with Sam Bush, who is a die hard KM84 guy and he is bringing the Mikteks to sessions cause he likes them that much...I have their flagship tube LDC, and it holds its own quite nicely. I have KM84s and 451s but am planning on adding the Mikteks shortly. If you are interested, you can call my pro audio Mark at 303.443.9822 and tell him I sent you and he will give you a great price... _________________ John Macy

I borrowed a pair of modded oktava M12's. i really like them. A guy in Vermont does the mods. Those mikteks look worth a good look.
Thanks for the advice ! _________________ Bob |
