My question is :- staring from scratch, what would YOU set it up for ?.
At the moment it's got standard A, B, C,
and LKL=E's to F,LKV=B's to Bb, LKR=E's to Eb
RKL=G#'s to G, RKR=D# to D to C# and D(9) to C#.
I think I'd like to keep the Emmons set-up on the top neck, should I add the Franklin change on pedal 4 ?
What would be the most useful set-up for instructional work on the C6 ?
RKL raises 1 a whole tone, raises 2 a half a tone and lowers 6 a whole tone. Then split that with the B pedal as needed for either E minor or A7th (with A pedal).
Since you have 9 pedals, I would put the PF on pedal 4 and move the standard C6 pedals over one pedal each.
Finally on C6, I would do the following (if it isn't already):
Thanks Carl,
I'll indeed try out the changes you suggest,
I have all the time in the world to try and learn the "Normal" set up.
I have for the past 30 years been living in a wilderness steelwise, and just folowing my nose (so to speak)using tunings of my own, adapted from the original "Fender" pedal steel set-up.
Whilst the type of changes in the C6 tuning will not be new to me, the standard E9th is.
I've always played a version of the E9th added 6th.(with a C# as the 5th and B as the 6th strings)

Basil, if you want to play like everybody else, then set up you guitar in the most common way. But why would you want to do that? Your tunings are well conceived, you know how to play them, and they contribute to your personal style. Vive la difference!
Mr. Bovine Sir,
I thank you kindly for your observation, and I believe you may be right, BUT, I have been asked to compile an instructional DVD of the BASICS of standard E9 and C6. So I need a lot of inspiration, and with a little help from my friends I may be able to actually complete this project.
Basil, I changed my C6th. tuning to A6th. alot like your set up. You tuned to A7th. open,I used A6th. I like the A6th. /E6th. change. Also tune the 1st.string to High A .12gage. lower it to G# works OK. Now I have to change back to C6th,set up like everyone else has joe
[This message was edited by Joe Miraglia on 04 April 2003 at 12:22 PM.]

Hi Joe,
I DON'T intend to change my personal set-up, just set-up a guitar for the basic E9-C6 changes for instuctional purposes.
I have 5 pedal steels and each one of them is set-up diferent....except for my Fender 1000.... that's my "Main" guitar and you know the tunings I use on that.
