Let's Count Our Formite Emmons P/P's

Post by Henry Matthews »

There have been several threads lately about the Emmons P/P guitar and how many were made etc. I thought it would be interesting to know how many are owned by formites. Also if you have an unusual one, post a pic. I'll start with my two:

1970 Black fatback D-10
1975 Rosewood D-10
Henry Matthews

D-10 Magnum, 8 &5, dark rose color
D-10 1974 Emmons cut tail, fat back,rosewood, 8&5
Nashville 112 amp, Fishman Loudbox Performer amp, Hilton pedal, Goodrich pedal,BJS bar, Kyser picks, Live steel Strings. No effects, doodads or stomp boxes.

I dunno the date, I think early-mid 70s. Rosewood Black Rock 3+4 S10. It's early enough to have original metal-bean Kluson tuners, not the metal-keystones of the later 70s and early-80s.

Just traded my '74 D10 Rosewood offline to a forum member a few months ago.

Mid 70's black SD-12. It's got a D-12 endplate and some extra holes underneath (but not a whole mess) so I'm not certain if it's a legit SD-12 or a stripped D-12. Never could find a serial #.

I'm down to one Emmons D-10 for now.......just sold my 67/68 Rosewood.

Below is my current and only Push-Pull......I believe it's a '71. I always refer affectionately to this color as "Barbara Mandrel Blue" because it seems like that was once her theme color.

Anybody know the official Emmons name for this color?

in the old emmons catalogue with color pictures this color was called 'blue.

the formica colors were all termed 'mica glass' but actually they never used the mica glass..it was always formica of some kind.

That's really pretty Jerry, is that the Derby blue? Looks to be a lighter blue. I had a derby blue once looked almost like that.

Don't know if it's Derby Blue or as Chris suggest, just plain old Blue.....either way? This guitar originally came to me as an 8/0, so I guess it was a Norlin guitar?

Henry, looks like you better get your calculator out! :)

#1714D D-10 Rosewood Fatback
Manufactured 8x2 and sold 1973 per Rebecca @ Emmons Guitar Co. Purchased from and set up 8x6 by Clem Schmitz in Minneapolis late 1970s. Still works perfectly, and oh that sound!
