A few days ago, Ransom Beers posted this clip and was wondering who the player was. He got no replies and took it down. I want to re-post it for him. It is really a great song.

I hope Ransom doesn't mind me re-posting it.

My first thought was Sonny Garrish based on tone and style. That album has no listing of the steel player on Allmusic.com. The other steel players he has used back in the early days were Franklin, Dugmore, Myrick, Maness. Sounds more like Garrish than any of the others.

Here's Gene Watson doing the same song. Sonny Garrish is listed as the steel player on this album.

Thanks Paul. That is what I thought. Sonny has that certain tone and feel that is his alone. I know us old timers know Sonny's work real well. I just hope that the up and comers get to know his work as we did.

I mentioned his name once to a newer player and he had never heard of him. Didn't know Rugg or Jernigan either.
