Howard, who is this? You?? Whoever - what wonderful playing. Again, demonstrating the breadth of what can be played on steel guitar type instruments, be they resonators, lap steels, pedal steels or screen door wire stretched between two nails played with a Coke bottle. I sure want to hear more of this. Thanks for the post!

It is Rich Arnold. If you are a member of Resonation, you can read more about him in this discussion from September 2012.

Heck of a player he is. Sounds like he plugs in. He must use a bullet end bar, because he does a lot of penciling, especially in Blues For Alice.

He could use a little help in the mixing department, though--that reverb is a bit much on all the instruments.

Is he using a bar. It sounds like standard guitar playing on a reso guitar.

Doug,

Rich plays a regular dobro with a steel. He is not using his fingers. That is what is so amazing about his playing.

Here is a picture of him playing dobro when he won first place as dobro player at the Old-time Fiddlers convention.

Cool, fooled me! Sounded a lot like standard guitar picking. Does he have any videos posted on line?

None that I've been able to find that show his playing. It has been a few years since I followed Rich's career, but back then, he wasn't able to make his living playing music (or at least the kind of music he liked playing) and he worked at Walmarts or someplace like that. So there isn't a lot on him.
