The Sideman amplifier is finally here!

I am very excited about this amplifier - all of the details can be found on this webpage, as well as some sound clips which I will update over time:

http://www.milkmansound.com/Milkman_Sou ... n_50W.html

Here is a rundown:

• 50W Cathode Biased amplifier via 6550 or 6L6GC output tubes
• 2 channels - one voiced for guitar, the other for steel (uses same preamp as my steel amp)
• Dual Channel Reverb - both channels run into the same tube reverb, which has a tone control as well as a blend control
• 15" SICA or Jupiter speaker combo
• available as a head or combo amplifier
• 42 pounds
• can be customized for your specific needs!
• price is $2499 for a combo with a SICA Speaker, or $2399 with the Jupiter speaker

The Milkman!

Tim, looking on your site, your amps look fantastic, and anything wired that meticulously, with those parts, is a work of art. If I could talk my wife into just one more amp, I would be in The Milkman fraternity. Who knows? She may change her mind! After all, she did allow me to buy a Twin Reverb, and I already had a Session 400 Limited. Love the new guitar and steel version!

:) Very cool Idea. This looks like a great amp. However, why not put a tremolo such as in the Twin Reverb?? That might be the ultimate amp IMHO. What do you think???

Hey Bill - I thought about tremolo, but if you want that amp it already exists. A Twin is a great amp and Fender already makes it!

I try to make the amps that Fender never made. There has never been a 6550 based Fender amp - or one voiced for steel and guitar. Tremolo would be nice, but there is not much room inside for that circuit.

Also, I do not like the traditional Fender style tremolo. Its not very sweet sounding. Two Milkman amps have tremolo - the 5W and the 20W and its a totally different circuit than Fender. That circuit was not going to fit into the Sideman without changing the layout significantly, and its already a squeeze to keep the power supply on the top. My amps are designed to be very simple and easy to service, so I do not put the filter caps in a can on the underside of the amp.

Hope that answers your question!

:) Tim,
Thanks for the explanation on tremolo. It all makes sense now. Keep up the good work.

I normally don't post too many comments , but I have to throw this out there -
I've been looking at Tim's Milkman amps, reading his posts about electronics, talking to other Forum members that have either the steel or guitar versions - it was time - I ordered one up . .
I'm here to tell ya - Tim nailed it with the Sideman . . 50 watts- perfect for what we do,steel channel EQ is right there - AND sounds the same whether the volume is on 2 or 5 ,simple guitar channel, sweet reverb - Tried a JBL D-140 ,but I've got a Weber Cali in it now , I might try some others later . . . Gigged it this weekend and got plenty of good comments - couldn't be happier . . Thanks Tim!

looks great Frank!

for those who do not know - Frank built the cabinet for his Sideman on his own!

He bought a custom version of the amp with the 4 and 8 ohm tap brought out to the rear so that he can experiment with different speakers. So far there have been several custom Sideman amplifiers made - I am working on one now with a Line input on the back panel.

This is a good amp for people with different needs from their primary steel amp
