Found this in the case of an old fender lap steel that I bought. Is this a Dobro bar or what ? Thanks.

It is an old tone bar. I have a couple of them. they could be found in music stores up into the fifties.

Not really. They were normally considered "student" bars as far as I can tell.

I see lots of these offered on eBay, for what it's worth. Unless you're a bar collector, it's only of historical interest.

Bobby Koepfer still uses one. His style is unorthodox to say the least, but I love to listen to him.

I love "Flatties" ... I used one at about half of my HSGA / Joliet visits ...

Very fun ... I coat the playing surface with an acrylic coating ... Very quiet

I remember Duke Ching saying ... "You know they make round bars now"

thanks a lot for taking time to post the reference material for the vintage bars.

I enjoy looking for them at Flea Markets and antique stores.

Unfortunately most the boys on Ebay seem to feel that they are made of gold and price them accordingly out of my reach

Thanks for the great posts. The Roland Peachey clip was awesome.
I checked out the the Ric horseshoes on that triple neck. BTW, to me, It doesn't appear to be the bar that is as critical as it is the hand weilding it.....
