Very Happy I have been holding off on writing about this for a week or so, so here goes. On Januare 27th my wife Margie and I got to go see Mike Smith with The Gatlin Brothers Show at the Riverside Casino in Laughlin Nevada. The show starts out with a very emotional tribute to us Veterans and to the America we love and cherish. Mike was featured on several of their songs and the admiration from Larry and the brothers for mike was well deserved and very aparent. He played his Zum Steel through a Fender Stee King amp and the tone was mixed perfect in the system. we were seated in the front row touching the stage about 15 feet from Mike. He also played keyboards on several songs and played them well. I often comment on CD's I buy through our steel brethren, and find I must comment on a couple of Cd's I got from Mikes webb site at www.mikeandt.com. Peace In The Valley is a Gospel album featuring Mike's and his wife T's vocals on traditional Gospel and songs written by T. The T is for Tierney, and she is an incredible vocalist. The album features Mike on Steel and several instruments. I also want to mention "The Mike And T Cafe" CD which showcases not only Mikes Steel and multi instrumental prowess, he also is featured on vocals along with T's singing and harmoizing. The album features some of Mikes Originals and he gets a tone out of his steel, like no one else I ever heard, I hove no Idea where he gets it from, Just awesome IMHO. I am tired pf typing so I wont go into all the titles. I just thought you might want to know.

Very Happy Billy,
You know for sure, I wont miss a chance. The first time I caught Mike was back in the 70's when he was on the road with "THE AUCTIONEER" Leroy Van Dyke Loveland Colorado. They had a smokin band back then and Mike was as warm and friendly person to visit with then as he is to this day. I have had his record of DREAMS OF INDIA since 77 or there abouts. I have been trying to learn "Brown Baggin"

Mike is one of my very favorite steel players and his tone is the best I ever heard, the steel king is the best amp that I ever played through, Mike sounds like Mike on other amps as well, don't know how he does that.. Rolling Eyes

Very Happy Larry,
We have always talked about the Dallas show because it is close to our anniversary. But we keep having things get in our way($$$$)We missed this past SWSGA because of my sons car problems. We will kick it around again.

I see lots of posts about what are called great players .. But, Miguel is absolutely on the highest level ! His new stuff is ground-breaking , and his older stuff has not been equaled over 30 plus yrs . Always has the best tone and cleanest notes. JF

Mike, along with Terry Crisp are two of the "Greats" who never seem to get the true acclaim they deserve.

Mike also has beautiful touch and taste on keyboards, as well as being a master musician.
