Dekley E9th pedal steel

Post by Aaron Shively »

I just bought this steel from a local guy, and I was wondering how much it is really worth. He said it was made in the 1950's. its in immaculate shape, and everything works perfectly. three pedals, three levers, all in perfect working order.

it's definitely not that old

dekley's are good guitars, but super heavy. for a 3 and 3, you'll probably get around 800-900, though it's possible to get more.

Entry Level Steel

Post by Bill Howard »

This is a nice clean student model but two things it is a student model, and looks to be a Pull release.
Second good as they are Dekley has been out of business for YEARS...and not running anyones item down they are not the most sought after guitars.. also non adjustable legs.. I would say this would bring about 450/maybe 600 on a good day better than a Maverick but not a pro model by any means.
Someone just starting this would be a good one..
and not that old??? Dekley went out of business before 1985

That's Dekley's Student Model. Dekley was in business from the late 1970s until the mid-1980s. Whoever told you that was made in the 1950s is just guessing (wrongly). As far as the value... hard to say, probably somewhere between $450 and $700.

I recently picked up the same model Dekley (minor cosmetic differences - darker wood fingerboard, black textured finish, etc) for slightly over five bills with the original case, papers, and assorted case candy). Needs a little cleaning and a set-up, but it seems like it ought to be a serviceable beginner steel for a newbie like me lol.

I konw that guitar

Post by Dave Dube »

I made a deal with Rich in Sacramento to buy that guitar. I sold mine overnight, gave him some eanest money and was to pay the balance tomorrow (9/13).

I came home from work to find out he refunded my money and sold to you without even giving me a chance to keep it. My guitar shipped out and now I have none.

I lost money on the shobud but figured it was worth it because I was getting a 3x3 at a good price.

Now I see you don't even need it! What do you want for it?

Change of heart?

Guess which guitar it is! So much for keeping it. He marked it up from the price he bought at after checking with you all to determine what the top end is. I am compelled to admit I'm ticked because he wouldn't sell to me.

If you are in the Sacamento area, he has been talking to me but said he will only sell locally for cash. Even the case looks like new. I have never seen a guitar of this age that looked better.

If you choose to buy from him, though, beware. His actions and words here invite questions and perhaps doubts.

I doubt he will give a percentage to the forum, but I'd like to be wrong on that.

HaHa! Honestly, I wouldn't get too worked up about it. It's covered in that tolex/vinyl/naugahyde crap! You don't really want that. Save up a few more bucks for a used Stage One. Or better yet, an older BMI or something. You'd be much happier in the long run. I wouldn't even pay $300 for that. 8)

The Dekley student model

Post by Scott Nipper »

Well, I am the buyer of this student Dekley! I'm not going to say what I paid but I think I got a great deal and Aaron was a really nice guy.

I'm a newbie to pedal steel (45 years of guitar and slide playing) and I am just loving this guitar. I have to say, I'm already thinking of a better guitar. While I like this, I can see where there can be improvements (I'd like better tuners and adjustable legs). It doesn't seem that heavy to me so a better guitar must really not weigh much!

I told myself about 12 years ago I was going to learn to play and am so sorry I waited so long. I can't wait to get out and play with folks and am hoping to find some other players locally to learn from. Let me know if you know anyone.
