Attn: all Mn, IA, WIS, and N + S Dakota players - MN show

Post by Dennis Atkins »

To all players in the 5 state area of North and South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, a new steel guitar show is being considered for an eary spring to late fall presentation.

Albert Svenddal and myself are considering putting on a steel guitar show in the Twin Cities area next year, but to do so, we need to know who would be interested in performing or just attending such an event.

We are in early discussion stage, with no firm date or location as of yet, but need your input as to whether you would be interested in such an event.

Please respond via email or posting here on the Forum. I will be checking periodically, and hopefully we can get a good response and proceed with the event.

Thank you all in advance for your consideration and possible willingness to help promote the steel guitar show here in the upper midwest.

We do have two great shows in Iowa and Wisconsin each year, and we do not want this to be a competition, but a healthy sharing of the players who may not get the opportunity to show off their skills to everyone.

Thanks for your cooperation.

I can help out. I'm not good enough of a player yet that anyone would want me to perform.

Glad to see the possibility of resuming a show in Minnesota again. It would depend on when it would be held.

Dennis, just do your homework, ask other shows for info, and you'll do just fine.

Hi Everyone, hope you all have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Thanks for your responses. I will keep checking for new responses, and hope we get a lot of interest.

To Roger Miller, just to let you know that Albert and I, along with Bill Lane, put on some shows in Minnesota for about 6 years, and know all the ins and outs of what it takes to put on a show. No disrespect meant and hope that maybe if we get this thing going, you would consider being one of our players.

Hope to see you in Wisconsin Rapids in March, and have a progress report by then.

We need more players in the area to let us know if you are interested in such a show, and willing to participate. All levels are welcome, and you don't have to be a professional player to play on our show.

The more the merrier.

Thanks for your interest.

Don't forget us guys north of the border. I'm within reasonable driving distance of the Twin Cities and would attend. I'd likely round up a few others as well, perhaps even Wayne Link?

I love Roger's playing and catch him regularly in Wisconsin Rapids. His talent is only exceeded by his wry humor  , and his lovely wife of course.

Hey Dennis, that would be great to have some of your great playing pals come down and join us. Along with Wayne Link, and Al Brisco, and Bob Taillefer, that I know, I am sure that we can find a place for those who would like to come. I will keep you posted on when and where this thing gets set up down here.

Thanks for the interest.

Hi Dennis,

If you don't mind an out-of-state guy with a wife from Minnesota (and we have some land near the boundary waters), I'd surely be interested in playing at a show in MN! I could even guarantee a few relatives in the audience! :)

Hi Jim, would love to see you in Minnesota. I can save a spot for you on the line-up when we get it all set up. I will keep everyone informed as to the progress of our attempts to organize the show.

Keep on checking back for progress notes.

Thanks for your interest.

I know that there are a lot of you steel players in the area of Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota, so lets hear from you.

I would like to say that we can compete with Iowa and Wisconsin in putting on a great show, but we need your input as to the practicality of doing so.

Please let me know if you are interested in participating in any way.

Thanks

lots or work

Post by Joe Naylor »

I don't want to play I wanted to display steelseats.

I am in the middle of helping the planning for the Phoenix Show and it is a lot of work. This is our 10th and most of the board has been helping at least 8 years.

They are fun but lots of work and take lots of money.

Dennis, You seem like an ambitious guy to tackle the project. Dennis attends the Wisconsin steel show and is no stranger to steel guitar shows in the Midwest.

Hi Mark, thanks for the compliment. Have done this before, and might be biting off more than I want. But it will be fun, if we can pull it off. Thanks for the posting of the Wisconsin show. Looking forward to seeing Joe Wright again. Great entertainer and steel player. Will make my reservations right away.

See you in Wisconsin Rapids.
