Christie's recently auctioned off a Sho-Bud 12-string guitar, getting only $625 for it:

http://www.christies.com/lotfinder/musical-instruments/music-city-manufacturing-incorporated-a-12-string-pedal-5622362-details.aspx?from=searchresults&intObjectID=5622362&sid=efc6e7fb-f682-46eb-9e84-d0f35586e28b

The purchaser now has it listed on Ebay. Still 4 days to go, but it is already at $685:

Not that I think we will see any fine art on Ebay anytime soon....

that ShoBud should have never been auctioned at Christie's to start with - they should have sent it straight to ebay or craigslist.

the buyer may break even on this one - if you arent familiar with Christie's - the gavel price is only the beginning - they have the "buyers premium" which is 25% of gavel price, then the crate charges of $150-300 - plus shipping - or/and you pay NY tax.

Interesting.... This same guitar has just been posted again on Ebay, starting bid of $1500, "Buy It Now", $2000.

This Sho-Bud sure gets around!

Christie's is simply the wrong place to try and sell a common used instrument. In like manner, used tires probably wouldn't sell very well at Nordstrom's or Sak's Fifth Avenue. One of the basic rules of selling is "Sell in the right place, and know your prospective buyers".

I've been to these big auction houses, and I'm here to tell 'ya...you won't find many pedal steelers there. Laughing
