Anyone have an image of how pedals connect to pedal rods? A new student has this steel, but to attach pedals you have to slip a rod connecter over a long screw that goes through the pedal, then hold it in place with a tiny nut that threads onto the screw. Horrible system, maybe we're not assembling it right, but I could see no other way. Clearly no spring-loaded clip on device like most steels use.
For what it's worth, I've never seen a steel with such terrible cabinet drop. The C pedal flattens string 6 by 30 cents! I'm kind of in shock with both these issues, I have a decent regard for pro GFI models. _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION

I have a student model. I don't know what you are seeing that might make you question that you are doing it wrong. There isn't much to get wrong. The rods can be turned around 180 degrees so either the nut goes toward the front of the guitar or the back of the guitar. I attach them so the nuts are toward the back (toward the player). If you hook the rods the way they are shown at the bottom of http://www.gfimusicalproducts.com/Pages/Steel%20Guitar%20Features.htm then the nuts at the other end will face the player. I contacted GFI shortly after I got the thing and that is the orientation that they recommended to me. If you hook the rods the opposite of what is shown in that picture then of course the nuts will face away from the player. Both seem to work fine but toward the player makes the nuts easier to access.

btw...
I am happy to take a picture of my connectors and share them but I am out of town right now. If your question is still outstanding this coming weekend I will upload a picture.

John,
This picture came from the GFI web page. Does it look like this?

That is the GFI way of connecting the pedal rod to the pedal. My Wife's GFI Expo S-10 has this system and I like it better than the Emmons way of connecting.
The ball end and spring loaded connector (that is the way my Franklin works) may be a little quicker to connect but the GFI method works fine. |

Gary, that photo helps a lot. We had the screw going the wrong way, and with zero experience with GFI setup, doing it this way didn't occur to me. In my defense, this is how the store he bought it from had it set up, we tried to make it work, but I knew Gene wouldn't settle for something clunky.
Thanks for the help! _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION

Thanks, Bill, but we got it right finally after I saw that photo here on the forum. It was too early in the morning for me to think of viewing it another way. More coffee, please! _________________ E9 INSTRUCTION
