I couldn't help but think about how many of the forum members who defended PayPal , and how they never had any issues with them ....I've had more than one issue with them , and have since not used them as I am STILL going thru problems with PayPal ......Recently I was sent this message from PayPal that is included in this post ......I found it so interesting that I Googled " PayPal Class Action " and found a lot of info on this .... Here's the message they sent me ...


"PayPal recently posted a new Policy Update which includes changes to the PayPal User Agreement. The update to the User Agreement is effective November 1, 2012 and contains several changes, including changes that affect how claims you and PayPal have against each other are resolved. You will, with limited exception, be required to submit claims you have against PayPal to binding and final arbitration, unless you opt out of the Agreement to Arbitrate (Section 14.3) by December 1, 2012. Unless you opt out: (1) you will only be permitted to pursue claims against PayPal on an individual basis, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class or representative action or proceeding and (2) you will only be permitted to seek relief (including monetary, injunctive, and declaratory relief) on an individual basis.

You can view this Policy Update by logging in to your PayPal account. To log in to your account, go to https://www.paypal.com and enter your member log in information. Once you are logged in, look at the Notifications section on the top right side of the page for the latest Policy Updates. We encourage you to review the Policy Update to familiarize yourself with all of the changes that have been made.

If you don't use it and don't want to receive policy updates, you should close your PayPal account.

Other than an issue with a seller (not a Forum transaction) that PayPal resolved quickly, I've never had a problem.

Recently used PayPal and something called Bill Me Later got involved.
Consequently have cancelled PayPal account. Prior to this never had a problem.

I had an offer to join/use the bill me later but I declined it. Just as they have sent me promotions for a paypal credit card - it was deleted.

One plus with paypal. I have a UPS account that was setup through paypal. It has reduced the UPS rates to commercial or close to commercial rates. e.g. I was going to make a shipment and took it to the local UPS store, the charge was going to be $16 and change. I thought that was high and didn't ship it and that was when I found paypal UPS and signed up for it. The same item came in at a little under $12 to ship using my UPS account. Although the UPS account was setup via paypal, I still pay UPS direct, nothing to do with paypal.

I print my own UPS shipping labels on my ink-jet printer using Avery 8126 shipping labels.

PayPal charged me $1.95 on my credit card .....I opted to avoid the PayPal process and pay using my private credit card NOT set up on my PayPal account to avoid issues I had with PayPal on an earlier transaction ......When I called PayPal to ask them what the charge was , they indicated that someone was trying to set up a PayPal account using my credit card numbers .....When I asked why they did not notify me , they had no answer ..... I told them that I would be canceling my credit card since someone had my numbers , and I immediately called my credit card company ....PayPal assured me that they would credit me the $1.95 on my next statement .....That was 2 mos ago !!....No credit yet !!.....It's not the amount at all ....It's the principle that they NEVER informed me that someone was using my credit card , ESPECIALLY when they knew I already had an account !!..... The kicker here is the fact that they told me that they did not think that it was me trying to set up the account .....When asked why they did not notify me , the phone went silent ..... They talk about all the safety and protection that they give you with your account .....When push comes to shove and you REALLY need their protection , you realize that it's B.S. ....... When it's good , it's GREAT !!......When things go wrong , it SUCKS !!.....When you see the class action law suits that are filed against them , and monies they have already paid out in some of these suits , you realize that you are not alone with PayPal problems .... "Bill Me Later" sounds like a bad idea. I've never tried it. I do use the PayPal Debit Card, though, mostly at the Post Office to pay for the postage on items that people order from the Forum Store.

PayPal can be very confusing for people who don't understand what it is and how to use it. For Forum Store purchases within the US, I recommend sending a check if someone has any problem at all with PayPal. For international customers, PayPal is the only payment I accept. I can't justify the monthly cost and hassle of having a Visa/MC Merchant Account for such a small mail order business.

James, what was the $1.95 charge for?

PayPal said that the $1.95 was a charge that they charged for this person to set up an account ....... I don't ever remember having to pay Ebay any money at all to set up an account ....Perhaps whoever stole my numbers wanted to try to set up some sort of Ebay or PayPal account that Ebay or PayPal charges for .......I know that PayPal was aware of the charge , so it was a legitimate charge that was charged by them .....?????......I was told all of this when I called PayPal ....Anytime you are buying something with a credit card , anyone recieving your credit card numbers could fraudulently use your numbers if they think they can get away with it .....I know a lot of people who would just figure that it was only $1.95 and just see a PayPal charge and think nothing of it and just pay for it ..... Too many scams going on especially in todays bad economy .....Jim

Call your credit card company and contest it.

That's another reason that I don't take credit cards. People would send the card number in a n email, which could be hacked. I don't want the responsibility of having other people's credit card numbers in my systems.

I use Paypal as much as possible, but then, I have never had a problem with them (yet).

I had a problem with my debit card though. I saw a charge from Equifax on my checking account statement for $19.95. I called them and reported that I didn't make the charge. They gave me the name of some chick who used my card number to set up an account to get her credit reports and other Equifax services. They refunded my money and investigated. Turns out her debit card number was real close to mine and she transposed 2 numbers by mistake. What pissed me off was, Equifax should have known something was wrong because the names didn't match. One of the "big 3" credit reporting agencies, and they allowed that to happen. Amazing.

I had a woman charge Fed Ex TWICE in a 3 month period on the same credit card that was MINE !!......Do you think they would have caught it the 2nd time around after I asked them to make a note of it the first time ? ....NOOOOOOOO !!......That would be too easy !!.....Her credit card number was only one number off ....I should have asked them which number ....They probably would have given it to me !!.....DUHHHH !!.....Jim

I call with my credit card numbers ..I don't send them via computer ....If I can't talk to a human to order things , then I don't order them .....Jim

All this whining about credit cards and paypal. Paypal is great and if someone uses your credit card fraudulently you will not have to pay. I have bought probably 20K and sold 30k worth of goods since they started, and yes there has been a few glitches, but hey life is not perfect. B0B had the right answer.

Precisely. And that happens to be one reason I use the PayPal system A LOT. I buy a lot of stuff online, since local merchants tend to stock mostly stuff they can sell volumes of, which tends to rule out more high-end, quality things I prefer. When I shop online, I always look to see if the merchant accepts PayPal payments, since doing it that way, I don't have to reveal my credit card number to anyone. That's a big deal to me.

And there are other PayPal conveniences that don't cost anything to use, like being able to use them to pay at local stores at the point of sale. I often pay for things at Home Depot by inputting my cell phone number and PayPal PIN - no need to drag anything out of my wallet. It's really convenient.

Then there's all the stuff you can find for sale on PayPal, things that aren't readily available from non-PayPal sources.

IMO, PayPal has it's place in the scheme of things.

I have used Paypal for all of my purchases on Ebay. I like their system where they "hold"your payment until you confirm you have received what you have paid for. They do not pay the seller until you have the item in your possession. Works pretty good. I have also used it on Amazon.com on occasion. Again, no problems. When I did have a problem with a seller they "froze up" the account until the problem was resolved. Nothing is perfect though, including Paypal.

I have found Paypal to be very reliable and fast. No matter where in the world I do business a payment sent and received is as quick as blinking your eye and as secure as Visa IMO.

There are 2 things which I don't like, that has nothing to do with security, but at the same time is controllable by me to some extent: If I leave money on the paypal account, they do not pay me one cent interest. Imagine the millions of $ they make from people on that one alone? Then, to rub salt in the wound, they charge you the exorbitant fee of 3% for receiving money.
Then - a 3rd beef- is that pp charges me a fee to transfer money from pp to my regular bank account if the transaction is under $500

The way I try to get around this gouging is to keep a minimum amount in my PP account, have the sender pay the fee and whenever possible, pay the fee as "Gift" which is only about 1%, and always transfer $500 or more right away to my bank account.

That must be a Canadian thing. PayPal doesn't charge me for deposits into my US bank account.

I don't keep a balance in my paypal account, I just have PayPal transactions charge my bank checking account directly each transaction. Doesn't cost me anything above the transaction cost.

I too went a LONG time without any problems , and I would still be singing the praises of PayPal and Ebay if this practice continued ........ All I am saying is that when things DO go bad , you will know what I am talking about ...... For those of you who have gone thru the process unscaved , Congrats, and I am happy for you ....Jim

I have used paypal for several years now.
But Now-they say they are verifing credit card numbers and I have to use mine--ending in two numbers that I have never had. So I can get no further into paypal cause I don't have the numbers they seem to want.
I suppose I could call them, but screw em. I will no longer use paypal. It's not my fault-it's theirs.
