Pedals 4&5 on e9

Please is there any way i can use the two extra pedals on my MSA E9 tuning?It was originaly tuned to a B6 and still has all the cross shafts, bell cranks, and pedals on the steel.Thanks for any help.

Assuming you have the 4 standard KLs...

I'd make pedal 4 a "Paul Franklin Pedal" and 5 a "Faux C6 Pedal".

"Faux C6" is my term, though others use the same concept. It's described at http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum5/HTML/004361.html

I don't know if your MSA could accomidate these changes, but if it can that's what I'd do.

You might want to move your regular A,B, and C changes to pedals 2,3, and 4, and drop the G#s to G on the first pedal.

What Mike says seems a good idea. As an alternative, I´d consider the "Tom Brumley" pedal that raises strings 7 & 10 a whole step for pedal 1. I personally have no use for the "Franklin" pedal, so I´d make that a whole-step raise on strings 5 and 6 instead; the equivalent of P 7 on C6.

I use the Brumley pedal on P1 so I'd leave that there. On pedal 5 I'd raise 5 and 6 a whole tone. With your E's lowered it's the same as the C6th pedal which raises 3 & 4 a whole tone. With this you can get some great chords and combinations. Also you can play some instrumentals like "Raisin' the Dickens", "Girl from Ipanema", and countless others. You can use it in combination with your E's lowered or raised a half tone. Also with your open tuning and the 9th string D. I think if I had only a S10 with only three pedals I'd put this change on instead of the regular C pedal. YOu can get a whole lot more out of a single 10 going this way.....

Cool idea for the 4th pedal. "Faux C6". A French steel guitar tuning. Wow, this forum is classier than I thought :>)

As for the extra pedals on the MSA, the p4 pedal is cool (a tad overrated). I'd be interested to know what the current set-up the guitar has before commenting further.
