Hey guys,
Glad to be here... Just made a deal for my very first pedal steel last night. I'm actually a western swing guitar picker, and I just couldn't take it anymore, so I made a trade with my steel player, Austin Tripp, for his first steel, a 3x1 Fender Single Neck. I'll be at the Augusta Steel Guitar Show playing guitar with him on a few songs. I look forward to meeting everyone, and any tips/tricks will be very appreciated.

@Bill Ladd, is actually a red Fender Steel... The single coil pickup sounds great through this old Stereo Chorus 400 I've got as a backup for my other Stereo Chorus guitar amp. Great guitar, loving the tone, just wish I could call myself a steel player, maybe one day!
@Frank, I go by Ryan, actually, I think the moderator made my handle 'David' because that is what was on my email addy. I have been called much worse than David though.
I wanted to jump straight to C6 because I love big, fat, moving chords from all of the Western Swing and Jazz I like to play, but I'll let E9 beat me up for a while, haha.

Hopefully that knee lever lowers the E's to Eb. You'll find that very helpful copping a C6 sound on the E9.

Hi Ryan, I am new to the steel, coming from the six string role, as well. That's great you have an experienced player around to show you the ropes. It's so easy to develop bad habits when starting out, especially when you have to consider three or four other things at the same time. Anyway, sounds like you have a great guitar to get off the ground!

Ryan is one of the best guitar pickers around. He plays what I like lol. On top of that, his musical knowledge is far far beyond his years. So the steel should be no problem. He's picking it up real quick like and I'm afraid he's gonna be better then me,,,, but I know how to take care of that ;) He's coming to the Augusta show next month and were gonna play some classic swing songs together and hopefully he wont be better than me by then lol.

Y'all don't listen to Austin too much, I only know one lick on the guitar, I just found a way to make that lick work with more than a few songs, haha. I'm looking forward to the Augusta show, everyone. Austin about has me convinced to bring my little steel to the jam session, and I just may do it. If you hear the most god awful sound you've ever heard, just look over at me and tell me it's time to take a break, haha!
