Post by Joe Smith »

I am trying something differenton the E9th neck. Using my LKV,I'm pulling the 5th string(b) up to a d. Anyone else using this pull?

I seem to remember that Paul Franklin had it at one point. It's a cool idea.

If you can combine it with an E to F# raise somehow, you could go from E major (no pedals) up a fourth to A major (pedals down), and then up another fourth to D major (the new change). I think that could be very useful.

I like that change and I have it on my 3 main steel guitars.

On the Franklin I have it on a knee lever, so I can use it more. that's because the Franklin is the only guitar where the C# is in tune if you release the D lever.

I have tried the B-D change and found it useful in a lot of positions.
Use the lever in:
open pos - raises 5th to a b7
A+B pedals - raises 3rd to 4th
Apedal + E´s to F give a minor w/b5 on strings 6 5 4 3 (root on 5th string)
By itself - three chromatic notes on strings 5 2 4

This is my 1958 8 string tuning. I had a Hise bolt on changer on a three neck String master.

This is my set up. Works for me!

<font face="monospace" size="3"><pre>

E-9th

LKL LKVL LKVC LKVR LKR 1 2 3 4 RKL RKR

1 F# G/G#
2 D# E D/C#
3 G# A
4 E D# F F#
5 B C D C# Bb
6 G# F# A *(G)
7 F# G
8 E D# F
9 D C#
10 B C C#

*(G) This change only works if pedal 1 is pressed.

C-6th

LVL LVR 4 5 6 7 8 RKL RKR

1 G G#
2 E F
3 C B D
4 A Ab B B
5 G F#
6 E Eb F
7 C C# D
8 A B
9 F F# E
10 C D A

Split LKVL with pedal 7 on 3rd string.
Split LKVR with pedals 4 or 7 on 4th string.
The RKL F remains an F when pedal 6 is pressed.
Two vertical levers can be press at once on either neck.

Surprised that no one else said anything.
C# to a D on a knee lever was used by Jimmie Day.
