I'm glad I've had the chance to see him live several times. My late father took me when I was 10 years old the first time in the late '80's. Good memories, there! Hate to see him go, but you know its time, maybe he's held on to touring a little longer than he should have. Saw him most recently a few years ago. While still a good show, you could tell the end of his performing days was getting close.

My friend, Jimmy Peppers, lives near me. He was Jones' Band manager back in the "no show" days. He's written about 20 songs that Jones has recorded over the years including "Playing Possum" and "Tonight I Just Don't Give A Damn".

The only time I got the chance to go see him was during the "No-Show" days. No George that night. Wasn't that big of loss, because Tammy and the Jones Boys took up the slack and played the whole show. It was awesome. I know Sonny was on steel, but don't know any of the rest of the band. But, they played some by themselves and Then Tammy would come out, the she would exit and they would play more, she would come back out, well, you get the picture.

Just saw a TV commercial for GMC. They used the Two Story House tune. Old George is definitely a country music icon and will long be remembered for it long past his retirement.

I'd say he made his mark.

Saw George many times, opened for him several times and even sat in the studio at Jimmy Capp's invitation and watched him record. Tammy came in. What great memories. Went on his bus with Jackie Dee Parrish and listened to some unreleased songs on a reel to reel deck. Hate to see it end for him but he doesn't owe us anything. He's given us some of the greatest country music ever laid down.

Finally was going to get to back up "no show" George Jones at a packed house at Harmony Park in the 60's, Except, George was was supposidly in a Motel in the next town and never did show up. Talk about a p----d
off audience.

In November of 2000, George was touring with Alan Jackson, and I had to work at a ballgame, so I missed George's part of the show. Got to the show right when Alan got onstage. I'm a huge George Jones fan, and will sing and play his songs at steel guitar shows.

How big an influence do you think Johnny Paycheck's singing was on George, or do you think George had more influence on Paycheck. Here is a video of the two singing together.

Dad told me that once the Country Gentlemen opened for George (back when Tom was with them) and George did show. At the end of their set, Duffey said they had to go to make way for George.
George hollered from the audience, a little lubricated and a blonde in his arms, something like "Y'all go ahead and play, boys!! I'm happy right here!"
I imagine he did eventually play, as it'd be hard to "No Show" from the crowd, but the Gents did play an extended set.

Since George was recording and touring at least 10 years before Johnny Paycheck ever came around(yes Donny Young and/or Donny Lytle had a few cuts 5 years before Paycheck, still 5 or 6 years after Jones), I'm going to guess Paycheck wasn't much influence on George Jones.

My wife and I showed up to see Jones one night, But he didn't. It was still a great show. The Jone's Boys Really filled his shoes.
