8 string reso capo? What is out there?

Post by Pat Haley »

I have a 8 string being built by Gregg McKenna. I have a Flux capo for the 6 string and although I do not use it very much it seems to work well. Is there a 8 string capo that anyone would suggest?

Depends on what your string spacing is. The strings on my National D8 Console have a measurement of only 2-1/8" at the nut, and a Beard capo I have is 2-1/2". Works fine up till about the 7th fret, where the strings begin to be too far apart.
The 8 string console I have recently built has a wider string spacing, and the capo will not work at all.
Find out what the string spacing will be on your McKenna.
I will say the Beard lends itself well to doing a partial capo of the strings, leaving one or more open on either the bass of treble side. I find this to be a fun thing to experiment with.

What does Mr. McKenna say about this issue?

I'm using the new beard wave capo with my 8-string (beard/goldtone) reso.
It works quite well -- much better tone than the original Beard, I find.
I'd assume the string spacing is similar to your 8-string...

I had Capo made for my 10 string Dobro by a guy named graham in the U.K.

His email is grahmetc@hotmail.com

The Capo works very well and the price was fair.
