Hi, There is a Rick DW16 on ebay and I have a question. IS this a Rick. Looks like a fender body with rick parts. What do you think?

DENNIS: That appears to me, to be what the ad says it is. The pickup assembly is correct for that era, as are the tone & volume controls and neck selection switch.
I sold my dark wood Ric about a year ago. Having owned a triple-8 Fender with the Trapazoid pickups, I'd say this model Ric is an exceptional guitar. The pickups, if working correctly, pack a real wallop and are crystal clear.
I purchased mine new from a Rickenbacher Sales Rep. while I was searching frantically for what I later learned was a BAKELITE model. I paid $375.00 w/case.
If the one on eBay is working properly, it will give any Fender player a healthy run for his/her money. |

The DW16 that was just sold on ebay is an even earlier body than what I have ever seen. This guitar doesn't have the aluminum fittings that hold the legs on the underside on later models. Instead they have added what looks like some kind of bracing across the body on the underside.
I wonder what the serial number is on this instrument?
The Ricknbacker DW's and SW's from 1953 and 1954 are so different. It seems they were experimenting to lower the costs of production, etc.
Anyone on the forum know what happened on the factory in that period? There was a new owner in the mid-fifties, says the Rick-website. |

i'll just say those are sleepers in the steel world - they dont take a backseat to anything out there tone/playability wise. i had a chance to buy one a few months ago in mint shape for $800 but i've told myself i have too many that dont get played as it is. i'd rather have a DW than a Fender as far as versatility, and those horseshoes spank. they are much lighter than the Fender Dual too, if you are gigging.
