I am late responding to a dear friend that has passed. I waited until his burial and would then post the wording on Roy's Steel Guitar Hall Of Fame plaque. Laurie is going through a very tough time now and Mary and I extend our sorrow for losing such a wonderful man in her life... Scotty & Mary

ROY AYRES…A PIONEER AND GRAND OLE OPRY MUSICIAN KNOWN FOR FULL CHORDS AND SMOOTH TONE. HE PLAYED STEEL ON ALL OF PEE WEE KING'S MAJOR HITS, INCLUDING "TENNESSEE WALTZ," THE THIRD LARGEST SELLER OF ALL TIME. HE RECORDED WITH SCORES OF KING RECORD COMPANY ARTISTS AND PLAYED STEEL IN A "DURANGO KID" WESTERN MOVIE. HE HAS A MASTER'S DEGREE IN PHYSICS AND WAS DIRECTOR OF STRING INSTRUMENT DEVELOPMENT AT FENDER MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.

Laurie I am in Dallas Tx unloading my truck I'm still driving I got my laptop out and was on the steel guitar forum I seen where Roy had passed away it jumped out and slapped me in the face. You no I thought the world of you and him. I'm just glad that my son and I got to play music with Roy the legend I feel so sorry for you and you lost your Buddy and best friend.I lost my wife 6 years ago and I'm not over that yet I just think of the good times and it helps a lot. God bless you and I'm so sorry your Friend Jim

I'm sorry I never got round to meeting Roy, though I followed his progress and enjoyed his music and postings. My deepest sympathies on your loss.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mr Roy a few yrs ago, + sharing the stage with him and a couple of other greats.
Mr. Roy, Papa John, Mr. Smoothe, Ben O'Del & Myself.
It was a great honor to be on the same stage with these guys.
