Hello,

Just wanted to let you all know that my dad joined my mom in Heaven last night. He had been in poor health for quite a while. The greatest blessing is that he did not suffer and his passing was very peaceful. Dad was 72.

Love, Donna

Don was a prince of a guy. I enjoyed a few brief conversations with him at Knoxville and Lexington.

May you take comfort through his memory and rejoice that he and your Mom are reunited. Sincere condolences to the entire family.

I am so sad hearing this.
I can remember that every time Don and I were at a show together, he would say "Please play The Bitter They Are, the Harder They Fall"

Even though we lived apart, Don was so special.

He will surely be missed.

The entire world lost badly this time.To start with, Donna lost one of the best and most caring Dad in the world. If Donna needed it or wanted it , Donna got it without question. That's how a young 10 year old girl became one of the premier Lady Steel guitar players in the business. If there was a person on this earth that loved Steel Guitar more than "Big" Don Hammitt, I was not priviledged to meet him. Don was not an accomplished player, cause he refused to let himself be.. Donna was the important one, and he wanted one and all to know it. Donna lost a great Dad, Kent lost a great Father-in-law, two pretty little girls lost a wonderful Granddaddy, And I lost one the best friends I ever had. We will all miss him very much. Donna and family are at the top of my Prayer list.
