Wow, cool! Love the small size (and the blurb on the website about putting it in the overhead bin on a plane). Would like to try one sometime :D

Hey Jim
I will be up for a visit and talk to you about a 12 string if this is possible.

I haven't recorded it yet. I think I've got all the
gear to do, but just haven't thought about it.
I'll try to get something out soon.
Thanks,
jim

It lives!

I saw this bad boy in its early stages and I must say the sustain is out of this world!
This is a mini Emmons on steroids.

Very innovative, but for me the obvious question is why not go all the way and make it keyless? I'm a little concerned about that ninety-degree bend the strings go through after the roller-nut. Is that going to cause premature string-breakage?

Perhaps keyless would have added additional length, I'm not a builder so I really don't know. But it looks well-engineered and if it has the genuine push-pull tone it ought to be a worthwhile steel for players who do a lot of travel.
The steel guitar is a hard mistress. She will obsess you, bemuse and bewitch you. She will dash your hopes on what seems to be whim, only to tease you into renewing the relationship once more so she can do it to you all over again...and yet, if you somehow manage to touch her in that certain magic way, she will yield up a sound which has so much soul, raw emotion and heartfelt depth to it that she will pierce you to the very core of your being.

keyhead & string breakage

Post by jim flynn »

Thanks to all for the comments!

I have used this keyhead design (90degrees) for almost
5 years now. I broke 2 strings on my original 6"lite"
during that time, Since March with the ELITE 10 string
I broke 2, one when I caught the string on a block at
the work bench, the other due to stupidity. String
breakage is not a problem.
Putting a keyless unit on it would add about three
inches to the overall length, while I'm not adverse to doing it, doing so would may limit it as a carry-on.
and who knows I may do it anyway, could save a little
in the cost. I appreciate all the comments, anytime
Thanks--Jim

Very interesting PSG. Is this guitar going to be at the St. Louis, or Dallas Show?
