Attended a few Newman seminars, used several courses, watched a lot of TV (Wilburn Bros, Jimmy Dean, Hee Haw,That Good Ole Nashville Music, etc.) but most of the learning was done on the bandstand. Trying to learn songs and licks off records.
Although there is plenty of learning material out today, including video, the best teacher is ultimately live playing. Too bad there is no where to get that experience any more.
Another good thing to do is go see local players live. There's nothing (well almost)a steeler would rather do than show another steeler a lick or two. It feeds our egos
[This message was edited by Richard Sinkler on 20 June 2002 at 07:46 PM.]
