Digitech Whammy Pedal on lap steel?

I was looking through the used pedals at musicgoround and remembered I had one of these years ago before I got into lap steel. I got one after seeing David Gilmore use one and tried it out. I could never get anything out of it much. But there was one setting that made my strat sound like a pedal steel on the e b & g strings. Anyone use one of these?

Yes, it is part of my arsenal. You can use it to squeeze notes in a manner similar to A and B pedals on a pedal steel. It is a bit cumbersome, but can be done. I have used it on gigs for that purpose. However, the real secret weapon this unique pedal has is its stupendous Boo-Wah effect. It can drop your tuning 2 octaves. If this is done quickly via the foot pedal, of course, it inparts an emphatic tone change reminiscent of the the Speedy West Boo-Wahs. You are back to your preset tone as soon as you back off the pedsl. It is effective for western swing songs and works great. Just like any other big effect, be sparing in its use.

I have one on my vox tonelab SE. It is better suited to emulating the B bender on a tele and that's how I've used it (with a Strat tho). I have never tried it with my lap steels but I think it would be fine. It sounds good -- not fake or digital sounding at all... at least not mine.

Another thing about this pedal is that in the engaged mode it imparts a bit of compression which results in a very subtle but noticeable pick attack. I do not find it undesirable; I actually like the "feel" that it gives to the note. It is almost like a "pluck" you get with a nylon string guitar. It is hard to explain, but it is there.

I use an expression pedal with an Electro-Harmonix Ring Thing and get the same effect as a Whammy Pedal. I haven't explored it much yet, but I plan on it.
