Rickenbacher B6 plate screw size and source?

Post by David Hayes »

I have a B6 with some screws missing (like me) that hold the plates in on the front of the guitar. They don't have a match at my local Lowe's. They appear to be either 3-48 or 3-56 size 3/8 to 1/2 long. Don't want to get the wrong size an crack the Bakelite screw hole like the previous owner did on one of them.

Can anyone confirm the size and let me know a good source? Thanks, David

You can always go smaller and sheath the screw into the hole with compressable matter, like soft cardboard paper, if pressed for a solution.

The big box home centers like Lowes are a tough place to find any of the smaller hardware. Check around some of your older smaller hardware stores, there is a good chance you can find some suitable replacements. I've got an older True Value local and they have a much better selection of small parts.

Stock up on a few lengths ... Sometimes the Bakelite receiving stems are broken off ... And you need longer screws ... The holes are quite deep.
