Leather or rubber soles?
I gave up playing pedal steel in boots quite a while ago. I fact it's so cold up here in Minne-snow-ta that I used to play in Sorels. I now play my pedal steel wearing loafers. In fact, I prefer loafers with "leather" soles versus sneakers with rubber soles. I find that I can slide on and off the pedals easier. I would like to hear some opinions from my fellow forumites. Thanks,

Gee, how can people play in stocking or bare feet? Doesn't that hurt? I usually practice in rubber soled bedroom slippers. When I play out (which I will be doing for only my third time this Sunday ) I prefer well worn running shoes so I get some grip from the rubber bottom.
I couldn't play in stocking feet even if I wanted to. The people around me would start gasping for air and passing out.

Playing barefooted is a different experience, although I do that more than anything these days. Now, if you really want to try something challenging, try putting knife blades in place of your pedals (facing up) and then have a go at it barefoot! (This is only recommended for true "Hawaiian" steel guitar players!

I prefer, soft leather..I play in my moccosins.. They have a bit of padding in the bottom, but I can still feel the pedals..
