We're in the starting stages of a trip to the West Coast to look up a bunch of old pickin' buddies and have a great time. We're in Salt Lake City, Utah right now visiting my stepson who's not a picker but loves Buck Owens so he's OK in my book.....

We'll be leaving tommorrow morning for Las Vegas to see a couple of old friends, Al Bruno and Larry Bales then on to San Pedro for my son's 48th birthday on Wednesday the 14th.

On Thursday night we'll be in Long Beach to see old friend "Mr. Twang" John McClung at Phil Trani's place......

Either Friday or Saturday I'll be sitting in on lead guitar with Jimmy Lester at the Riverside VFW...

On Sunday the 18th I'll be playing lead guitar with Clarke Rohn at the Bellflower Eagles Lodge.... I think it's at 3:00 PM but I'll check with Clarke to make sure. Some old friends are supposed to be there which is nice....

If they're still there, we're planning to see Red Simpson & Larry Petrie at Trout's in Bakersfield on Monday night and then head back to the east...

On the way back we'll be stopping in Sand Springs, OK to see old buddy Johnny McKnight and then to Arkansas to see old drummer pal Bruce MacLachlan from the old Eddy Drake band smd then finally to Nashville to see Yar and Sharon again at John A's club...... I'll be taking a lot of photos to post after we get home....

While in LA, I'm hoping to get up with Blackie Taylor and Mike Perlowin and also maybe squeeze in a trip to Jim Palenscar's store in the San Diego area. I don't have to be back home until the 30th as I have a gig on the 31st so this'll be a great trip....so far so good.........JH in Va.

Hey Jerry, I'm playing in Venice on Saturday, the 17th. I hope you come by and see me play steel in a non-country setting.

My phone number is (323) 340-8010. I'm listed in the L.A. directory, so you can look me up if you misplace it.

Venice CA:Nashville collides with Jamaica, Saturday March 17

One of L.A.'s finest reggae bands, Mark Tyson and the Blue Nile express, will be performing at the Talking Stick coffee house, 1411 Lincoln Blvd., Venice CA on St Patty's day, March 17, and I'll be sitting in for a few tunes.

Unlike most reggae bands, these guys have explored music from other parts of the world and integrated it into their repertoire. This includes music from Africa, South America, and the middle east, as well as American country and blues. They are very exotic, very eclectic and very very good.

The last time I sat in with them, Mark and the band was the opening act for another band, and the second group, after hearing me play, invited me to sit in with them too. This time Mark and the guys are headlining and I don't know whether or not the opening acts will allow me to sit in, but I'll be set up and ready to go if they want me.

The show starts at 7 PM. Mark and the guys go on at 9:45.

I hope some of you guys can come by.

Jerry, Clarke plays from 3-7 pm every Sunday at the Bellflower Eagles:

9816 Cedar Street
Bellflower, CA 90706
(562) 866-9174

My gig at Phil Trani's is from 6:30-9:30 pm, every Thursday.

3490 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach, CA 90807

Bring your guitar, I can't promise use of lead player Jimmy's tele. Yours is cooler and fancier anyway! My steel is tough to pull in and out on our tiny stage, so guitar would be better. You have time to jam at my home studio like last time (I'm astonished that was September 2009! The time, the time...where does it fly?!). Oh, and I DO have a CD for you of our last jam session.
