1964 Sho-Bud D-10 permanent "Big E" model

I ordered one of these in the Fall of 1964
and received it in Jan. of 1965. At the time
there was no mention of knee levers but it did have the eight floor pedals. However, The
pedals on the E9th were grouped together from
the pedals on the C6th. The A pedal raised
only the 5th string and not the 10th string.
At a latter date, I added the 10th string
raise and two knee levers.The cabinet and necks were(are) birds-eye maple and the top is covered with a very thick layer of black lacquer or acrylic. This guitar was built in
Madison, TN and I delt with David Jackson in
ordering. The finger tip models seem to have
come out in about 1965, so my question is:
was this one of the very last "Big E" models
built and just how many were there?????Maybe
one of the forum members was working there at
that time and can answer my question.

Probably. As a D-10, 1967 fingertip owner, it's my understading the fingertips were made from late 1965 through 1966 and into early 1967 before they ceased production of them due to their constant mechanical problems. There were probably some made after yours, but I'm not totally sure what month fingertips went into production in 1965. "Late 1965" to me would be from Sept. or Oct. on maybe. Ask Duane on the "Unofficial Sho-Bud" Web site and see what he says. He's been doing a bunch of historical research on Sho-Bud and Bobbe Seymour may also know. Best regards,

It is my understanding that the Permanents were a very popular pedal steel and even after Sho-Bud started producing other models such as the Fingertip, the Permanents contuined to be built. I am compiling some info on Sho-Bud. It is very hard to nail down solid facts about production dates on the early models of Sho-Buds, cause I've found that each person I've talked to and interviewed about Sho-Bud, each tend to give conflicting dates. Duane I can give you a "for sure" date. I have the original receipt for my Perment, Invoice NO. 4-093, Order NO. SB-10076, dated October 26, 1964.

This is not directly related to the original topic, but Larry Harlan mentioned that the Fingertips were produced only until early ´67. What I´m curious about is, what came after them? Did they go to the Professionals right away in ´67 or was there something in between? If somebody ever should write a book about the ShoBud history, I´ll be among the first to buy it...
