Looking for honest dealer S. W. of Chicago

Post by Bill Myrick »

I have a family member that recently lost their spouse and have some 25 to 30 guitars , some amps and some sound equipment that must be sold. This person lives in Romeoville, Ill. maybe 45 to 50 miles S.W. of Chicago and about halfway between Joliet and Aurora. I am looking for a highly recommended music dealer somewhere in the area that could be trusted to help with pricing and sales. No steel guitars , all rythm and lead guitars. Please send any info as I trust my fellow forumites for honesty and help. Thanks, Bill Myrick.

Guitars Chicago

Go to Guitar Works Ltd. up in Evanston, IL. Talk to Terry. I know he does pricing and bulk purchases. He just bought a huge estate of guitars not too long ago, so I'm sure this would be right up his alley.

I would make an inventory of the instruments and all with pictures. Look each item up on the net and get ballpark figures for worth.(This can be wildly inaccurate but is start) Also do not be in a hurry to sell. Talk to 3 different potential buyers or appraisers before accepting any offers.

There might be a sleeper in there. Years ago I sold a proto type Alembic bass to a friend for pretty cheap. After 10 years I saw the value jump on that particular guitar to $30,000.00. I called my buddy to give him the good news but he had just sold it to a dealer for cheap.

You don't want to be on the wrong end of a greatest deal ever story.

I know a number of folks in the Chicago area, but I'll add my recommendation for Guitar Works (even though Evanston is on the wrong side of Chicago to be convenient for you. I've known and done business with Terry for well over 20 years and you won't find a more honest or more personable guy to deal with.

Honest Dealer

I understand your desire to find assistance in your area but you may consider casting a wider net with use of e-mail (pics and telephone)as you've accomplished here. Good luck.

There's a......

.......guitar show this weekend in Chicagoland (Alsip) and another in Milwaukee in March. With a little effort you could get a handful of appraisals from top dealers in person, take some geetars along, take pics of them all. CME and GW would probably be there. Here is one link...
