I'm proud to again have worked with Al, producing an instructional DVD on a subject that is often overlooked - Volume Pedal Technique.
This is our fourth DVD since the original "Bakersfield Style" released in 2006.

The explanations and closeups really explain the technique excellently. There is also a step by step demonstration of how to replace a pot.

Whatever works for you, but I strongly disagree.

The VP has to be used a lot to get the beautiful voice of PSG.

The challenge is to create the illusion that it's not being used.

When I was first learning, the late Jeff Newman advised me to listen to Jimmy Day's playing on "Steel and Strings" to hear VP use by a master.

I found the album, listened and learned. It caused the "Click in my brain" that Jeff said it would.

When used properly it's an Expression Pedal, not a volume control.

I recommend that album, if you can find it.

The techniques, shown in close ups with explanations, on this DVD are the same as I heard on that album. It also includes a lot of other info on the mechanical and physical aspects of VPs.

Hi Al puts out some very interesting products you are never to old to pick up tips,this will be a great help. It is the simple things in life that are most interesting.I wish you well with the sale of the DVD.

Close attention to the details that others take for granted are what makes a great player.

There is a lot of excellent PSG instruction available.
I personally buy a lot, am always learning, even though I'm an experienced player with years of live and session experience

Al and I have purposely chosen topics that haven't been extensively covered by others. It's really a labor of love. There's not much money being made given all the production costs.

I really enjoyed the DVD. It's a very simple technique in principal but I can see to master it is going to take some work. I would definitely recommend this to newer guys (like myself) because I think it's one of those things that the sooner you are aware of it the better off you are and would bet its one of those subtle things that in the long run separates a good player from a great one. Great job Joey and Al!

the technique applies to any pedal but as a bonus Al goes step by step on changing a pot out on the goodrich pedal.

Thanks, John - that's good to know. Does he also cover how to adjust the Goodrich pedal? Sorry to be so dense, but I'm a complete beginner when it comes to pedals of any type, and I have a used Goodrich I have no idea how to deal with. It's been in my closet, waiting for when I have time to hunt someone down who can help me.

Liz,
There have been many different types of Goodrich Pedals over the years.

There is a section in this DVD showing closeups of how to replace the pot and restring a pot style Goodrich pedal.

That info is similar for most pot pedals.

The adjustments of electronic Goodrich pedals (there have been several types) are not covered in the DVD, only Hilton.

If that's the info you need I suggest posting the question in the Electronics section of this forum. Be sure to include the model number, or a picture.

Thank you, Joey. I think the pedal has a pot. I haven't looked at it in so long, I'm not certain. Posting pics in the electronics forum is a great idea. The DVD sounds like it would be a great help too.
