Yup, Mr. Cosden's got the right idea. Just... DON'T... double on guitar. If you can't play a good part on PSG - FIGURE ONE OUT. I'm still a better guitarist, but that's kind of like saying baby bottles are easier than sippy cups. It's just so natural for me to try to work something up on guitar because it's easier... but that didn't get the pyramids built, Win the Big One etc. Is she playing the electric guitar parts?

Hey Zane - great stuff as usual. I especially liked the "Creating a Style" video. Yes, it's out there where the buses don't run so to speak but exploratory playing interests me a great deal. In fact more than a lot of the finished versions of songs I hear. To me a song is almost never "finished" until you have taken it as far as you can and then and only then you put it on the back burner until you either have a fresh perspective or you can at least stand to play it again for the 468,912th time! Its always good to see a new video post from you. Thanks!

I'm wondering if it'd be good to start another thread were the focus could be about the outsider view of the pedal steel, like we discuss here... but maybe more often

I'd be into learning what tunings, effects, setups, happy accidents others have...
and what you've heard lately that's got you going-

Not a bad idea to have a distinct "outsider" slant to a thread. I think the drawback would be that the majority of this thread might need to be transplanted.
As Elton started this, perhaps he (and if needed, the moderator) would be amenable to stretching this a tad, without losing momentum. Seems your suggestions on tunings, etc. fit well in here, and would not be off-topic.

What say ye, Elton?

I love the idea of swapping "outsider" knowledge with you folks, I have been an effects junkie for a long time now and would be happy to have the opportunity to guide people to the sound they''re hoping to hear.

Also since my band has been thinking about doing this song I have been searching for good examples.

Side note I actually thought the guitar on the original was steel fro nearly 20 years. This song is probably one of the first to make me want to play steel. And it's not even steel, so I guess it makes sense I don't play steel like most.

Here is a live video from an October gig in NYC.....
The sound guy didn't get the steel in the mix until halfway through the first verse... Pile of effects and no country licks allowed.

Great rhythm section... Paul Frazier (bass) and Steve Williams (drums)... both road guys for David Byrne. The lovely Liz Holtan on back vox. Look her up on imdb.... you probably have seen her in something.
