We were told on Saturday night that Merle has let Norm go....what does anyone know about that ?? The same gentleman told us that Merle, Willie, and Ray Price were doing a 15 date tour together beginning in March in Las Vegas and ending at Radio City Music Hall, N Y C. When I told my best bud about it , he said "sounds like a joint venture to me" . |

Larry,
Could it be that just Norm retired? He's been with the Hag since Hitler was a corporal. Norm is not as young as he used to be. Ha, none of us are, and I never was. I've heard Hag is pretty good to his people, and Norm is such a great guy, that if Hag was a real horses'patoot he'd have left him years ago. Of course people change, times change, and spare change, so it may be that the Hag just up and said, "Out, Norman"! I reckon we'll all find out soon enough. Glad you got to see Bobby Flores. He am one fine picker. May be he can come to Siloam sometime for a steel get together.

I've heard from a very reliable source that Merle fires band members, and sometimes the whole band, quite often, and then phones them the next day apologizing asking forgiveness, and rehiring them. Apparently this has been going on for many years.

Larry it would be more like, Norm fired Hag.
On a more serious note, oh could it be, if this 3-combo tour is a fact, they just down sized the band for this tour and Norm stayed home?
Just my take on the deal.

Although Hag is a great singer & songwriter, that doesn't mean he is faultless. From what I hear, he has taken over the "No Show" title from George. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he did something like fire Norm. I've never met Norm, but have always been impressed with his playing, and have never heard anything bad about him. Norm will be OK. |

E.T. used to fire band members quite often, then call them back the next day. Just ask Cal Smith and Jack Greene! |

Roy Nichols was once quoted as saying that he had been fired from the strangers at least 100 times in his career with them but never missed a show. Although Merle has been known to fire some of the best guitar players in the world and really mean it. I could name them but I'm sure most of you know their names.
Merle likes to play guitar a lot and well need I say anymore?
