What pickup do you use on your steel? I felt like someone out there would benefit from this poll. I had not seen one like it and had a hard time deciding which pickup I needed when I first picked up the steel.
Please specify other when you cast a vote. _________________ Keenan Friday

I use the Lace Alumitone on both of my Rittenberry's.
Very clean sound and no hum, nice separation & sustain. _________________ aka "Lucky Kay"--Custom built Rittenberry SD10 3X5, Walker S/S, NV-112, and Hilton Pedal |

Bruce Zumsteg would know the impedance, but I had him replace my e66 with a Truetone.
Did Jerry used to cut the top deck square instead of trapezoidal? It looks like I have Truetones on my MSA _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

Stock Emmons single-coils on my Legrande and stock Excel single-coils on my Excel. Great tone from both, but the Emmons pickups are fairly noisy so I may replace them with humbuckers if I can find any I'd be happy with... _________________ www.pedalsteel.ca |

For the time being I am using a single coil that I wound myself. 14.5K.
It gives the best tone (to my ears)
Hum is s problem of course but it is bearable considering that my place is bad for hum and I also tried a new commercially made SC with more hum. So I am happy with it. _________________ BenRom Pedal Steel Guitars

When I ordered my Carter, new in '06, it came with a GeorgeL's SS. If I wanted a different one, there would have been a waiting period. So far I'm pleased with the tone of it.

I have an E-66 in a Mullen, but I also have a Trutone in a Fessy and BL XR-16's in a Carter. I like the XR-16s just as much as the others. They're all good. Why no option for the XR-16 in the poll? I voted other.

I currently have a Wallace Tru tone in my SD10 and George L E66 and a 10-1 on my D10....but I just got to hear Billy Easton play his new Infinity guitar equipped with new Telonics pick ups. I think they're nick named "Billy Blades" The sound is amazing, perfect mix, not too mellow and not too shrill. _________________ Clinesmith consoles D-8/6 5 pedal, D-8 3 pedal & A25 Frypan, Pettingill Teardrop, & P8 Deluxe.

My 81 Franklin came with Lawrence 705's. I put 710's on it probably close to 10 years ago. I couldn't think of anything else on a Franklin. |

I replaced my single coil Emmons LeGrande II pickups with a pair of 710's. I love them and they did not change the tone from what I hear.
My ShoBud has the original single coils.
My SD-10 Weenick has a E-66. _________________ Private one on one lessons available

Thanks Paddy, I've been contemplating getting one, I think it would be hard to beat my alumitone but ya never know unless you try one. Did you find it a little difficult to set up? I know it's not a plug and play type of pickup. Thanks, Roger |

Roger there is a bit of a process to getting them dialed in, this takes time and patience but is worth the effort - the ability to dial in each string is one of the features of them. I replaced Alumitones to try them out. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9

My 1999 Carter uni (Black of course ) which was used when I got it in 2003, had a Lawrence 712..too brite for me. I called the Late John Fabian and ordered a Wallace TT. I'd always liked single coils. More than pleased now
