Seems to me that a new club in Birmingham on similar lines to the Castaways would do well nowadays, especially if they served Hawaiian food. I don't know of any Hawaiian restaurant in the Birmingham area, especially with live Hawaiian music. 8)

More than you could possibly imagine about Tiki Bars is available at this website:

When I come across a website this fanatical, I feel that this Internet thing might have some use for it, after all.

Dwight Harris was mentioned earlier. He played in the Detroit area then moved to Ft. Lauderdale as I recall. Dwight was (is?) an awesome player who had a very beautiful Hawaiian touch and tone. Dwight and I carried on a friendship for a number of years. I travelled to Ft. L one year to celebrate the birthday of Joe Secretario ("E Mama E" fame). Joe, Dwight and I had jam sessions together.
Dwight eventually quit playing steel and I lost touch with him. I hope he is still with us and enjoying fishing with his (helicopter) son. Oh, I'm quite certain the steel player in that pic is not Dwight. :?:
