CA, Santa Cruz's Great Patti Maxine in Western Swing HOF

Post by David Wren »

On Sunday 10/2, the wonderful Bay Area steel guitar player from Santa Cruz, Patti Maxine will be inducted into the Sacramento Western Swing Society's "Hall of Fame".

I'll post the location and direction to the hall as the date nears.

I'm so happy for her!

Here's a link to more details in the "Steelers" section of the forum:

I'll see you there David. The Hall of Fame weekend at the Western Swing Society is just about the closest thing there is in Northern California to a steel guitar convention. Almost every band has a steel player.

Paul, you are so right on the mass influx of steel pickers..... the Sacramento Western Swing Society's "Hall of Fame" jubilee is simply unparralled anywhere in CA... as far as getting a bunch of PSG players in one spot for a weekened!

The music starts on Thursday, 8/29.. and continies until late Sunday evening... and we're talking music from 9:00-1:00 daily!!!

The stage right of the band area starts to look very much like Bobbee's store in Nashvile :)

Here's a web site for details on directions and band schedules: http://www.westernswingsociety.org/FestivalPage.htm

I'm guessin' my old San Deigo friend Bobby Meeks will be joining us, and Paul, I see that your "Stardust Cowboys" take the stage on Sunday.... there a rummor of Bobby Black early on Sunday.. and of course my dear friends Jay Riley and Hubert "Brownie" Brown will be with the house band (the best steeler in the area folks!!!)

.. oh, did I almost forget Chuck (giant C6th great) Hayes...... I'm telling you formum folks.. this IS THE steel guitarist event in Sacramento... and this year non pedal foks can come see the magic of my dear friend Patti Maxine..... let me you warn you, still waters run deep.. and this lovely steeler from the Santa Cruz mountains has kicked my butt more than I care to admit... but my wife can tell you the dates :)

Time to give this puppy a great big bump to the top!

The 4 day celebration starts this Thursday!!!

There's a jam room in the back, so bring your steel if you would like to play as well as listen!

Well, another great HOF weekend! I wanted to post my congratulations also to San Deigo steeler Marc Trainor, who also was inducted into the Hall of Fame on Sunday. Marc is a real nice guy, great player and a real joy to talk PSG with!!! It was great meeting him, and listening to him play as part of the HOF band!

Also performing on stage were another San Deigo steeler Bob Meeks, and all the way from the great Northwest, Wayne Franco... so nice to see my long distance steeling buddies again!

I hear the good folks of Santa Cruz already have a local party planned to honor Patti Maxine, on 10/22 at the Crepe Place... so of course I'll post this when the date is closer.
